Client & Diagnosis

Client Profile: Client who wants a distinctly cool, smoky blonde with visible ash direction. Typically aged 25–45. Often describes goal as "cool, expensive, editorial." Has been platinum-curious but is not ready to commit to Level 10.
Hair History: Virgin or minimally processed. One or two prior bleach services maximum. No heavy deposit color history. Hair in good structural condition — elasticity test passes. Canvas achieved at Level 9 minimum, ideally uniform across all sections.
Hair Diagnosis: Post-bleach canvas at Level 9. Underlying tone: yellow to pale yellow. Cuticle state: 2 (slightly elevated porosity from bleach, manageable). No significant warm deposit remaining from prior color. Density medium.
Current Level: Level 9 (post-lightening canvas)
Target Level: Level 9 Cool Ash — smoky, directionally cool, no visible warmth

The Formula

Formula: 20g 9/1 (Light Ash Blonde) + 10g 0/11 (Blue-Ash Intensifier) + 10g 9/0 (Natural Light Blonde) + 60ml developer
Mixing Ratio: 40g product : 60ml developer (1:1.5)
Developer: 1.5% / 5 Vol — no lift required; pure deposit and neutralization
Timing: 20–25 minutes. Open air (no foil, no heat). Check at 20 minutes — if sufficient ash depth: rinse. If residual yellow visible: extend to 25 minutes maximum.
Expected Lift: Zero lift. Toner only — this formula deposits, it does not lift. Level stays at 9.

Intelligence Layer

Why It Works: The 9/1 base delivers the ash (blue-green) direction at Level 9 depth. The 0/11 intensifier is a direct blue-ash pigment concentrate — it significantly amplifies the neutralizing power of the formula without adding depth or changing the level. The 9/0 natural acts as a buffer, preventing the formula from reading overly grey or flat — it adds body and luminosity to the ash result. At 1.5% developer, the formula deposits without opening the cuticle aggressively, which means the pigment sits cleanly on the cortex surface and reflects light with a smooth, polished quality. [S2]
Common Mistakes: (1) Applying on Level 8 canvas — ash pigment fights residual orange-gold and produces drab, greenish-grey rather than clean ash. SOLUTION: additional lightening session first. (2) Processing beyond 25 minutes — the 0/11 intensifier continues to deposit and the result moves from smoky ash to grey-drab. SOLUTION: set a maximum timer. (3) Using 3% developer "to make it last longer" — higher developer opens the cuticle, pigment deposits unevenly, result fades faster. SOLUTION: always 1.5% for toners on bleached hair. [S2]
Alternatives: BL-C-002 (Pearly Ash) for a softer ash with violet luminosity. BL-C-003 (Silver Ash) for a cooler, more silver direction. BL-A-001 (Classic Ash) for a warmer, less directional ash at Level 8–9.
Maintenance: Toner refresh every 4–5 weeks. Home care: purple shampoo 2× per week (not daily — over-use causes grey cast). Bond maintenance product 3× per week. UV protection spray for outdoor clients. Avoid chlorine without barrier protection.
