Client Profile: Returning client whose blonde toner has faded and warm tones have returned. The canvas is confirmed at Level 8+ with a gold-yellow tone. Not a canvas failure — a toner fade case. Client describes result as "getting brassy" or "my blonde went warm."
Hair History: Existing blonde client. Prior service: bleach + tone. Current state: toner faded, canvas is warm. No additional lightening required — this is a toner refresh.
Hair Diagnosis: Canvas Level 8–9 (confirmed). Current tone: gold to yellow-gold (toner has faded). The canvas is sufficient — this is not a lift problem. It is a tonal maintenance case. Cuticle state 2–3 (cumulative from prior bleaching).
Current Level: Level 8–9 (existing blonde, warm tone dominant due to toner fade)
Target Level: Level 8–9 — return to client's target tone (confirm from prior service notes)

The Formula

Formula: Match to original target tone: For cool ash target — use BL-C-001 or BL-A-001. For neutral target — use BL-N-001. For warm target — confirm whether re-toning is needed or if natural fade is acceptable.
Mixing Ratio: Per target formula
Developer: 1.5% / 5 Vol — no lift required on a toner refresh
Timing: 15–20 minutes. Open air. Check at 15.
Expected Lift: Zero. Pure toner refresh — no lift component.

Intelligence Layer

Why It Works: Brassiness correction on a confirmed-sufficient canvas is a simple toner refresh — not a correction service. The canvas was sufficient when the original toner was applied. The warm tone has returned because the toner pigment has faded (as all toners do). The correct response is: confirm the canvas is still at the required level, select the appropriate toner, and apply at 1.5% developer. Adding more bleach is the wrong response when the canvas is already at the required level. [S2]
Common Mistakes: (1) Adding more bleach to "fix" the brassiness — if the canvas is at Level 8+, the brassiness is toner fade, not canvas failure. More bleach damages the hair unnecessarily. SOLUTION: Confirm canvas level, then tone. (2) Using 3% developer for "more lasting result" — higher developer opens the cuticle and deposits less evenly on porous hair, producing a faster-fading result. [S2]
Alternatives: If canvas is insufficient (below Level 8): additional lightening session required before toning. If canvas is uneven: targeted lightening on darker sections before toning.
Maintenance: Establish a regular toner refresh schedule: every 4–5 weeks for ash/cool targets, 5–7 weeks for neutral, 6–8 weeks for warm. Home purple shampoo 2× per week for cool targets.
